Braves sign Justin Upton; lose Prado, Delgado and three prospects

Happy to add Justin Upton’s power to the outfield for at least the next three seasons.  However I feel that Wren gave up too much. Prado, Delgado, and three prospects. We might have a heck of an outfield, but we just lost our MVP from last year in Prado.

Now we’re stuck wuth Juan “I’m too fat” Francisco at third with Reed Johnson backing him up.  Are you kidding me?!?! Wonder if Chipper has any second thoughts about retirement…

I hope we don’t end up missing Prado’s versatility.  Shocked he’s no longer a Brave:(  At least Julio Teheran wasn’t included in the deal.

Braves’ bats fall silent; lose 5-1 to Cubs

Randall Delgado certainly deserved a better fate.  He pitched a quality start – three runs allowed over 6 innings – but the offense came out flat again.  They blew a golden opportunity in the 1st.  After Bourn, Prado, and Jones singled to load the bases with one out, Freeman lined into a DP.  Then with one out in the 6th, we had runners at first and second but failed to score.  Ross singled with 2 out but Soriano nailed Chipper at the plate with a nice throw.

The Cubs tacked on a few more runs against a beleaguered Braves’ bullpen. Venters gave up another HR (6).  The Cubs hit three HR’s in all- Rizzo, LaHair, and Baker. I’m really impressed by Rizzo. He has major power.  Let’s see what happens when the league starts to figure him out.  (See Jason Heyward circa. 2011).  Auto loss goes for the split in tonight’s series finale.

Braves beat Fish 2-1 behind Delgado’s masterpiece

The Braves officially claimed a series win over the Marlins with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening.  Randal Delgado threw 6. 2 innings of 2 hit one run ball.  O’Ventbrel took care of the rest.  Atlanta scored all the runs they’d need in the top of the fourth.  Freddie Freeman and Delgado prouduced run-scoring singles.  Freeman left the contest with a finger bruise that frame and is day to day.  Braves are slowly moving up in the standings.  No matter what Minor does tonight, this series can be deemed a success.

Randall Delgado goes 8 innings, but Braves fall to Phils 4-0 in series finale

One night after pulling off a 15-13 comeback win (19 hits), the atlanta offense could do nothing against Phillies starter Joe Blanton.  He threw a 3 hitter. Are you kidding me?!?!  Pathetic. Way to lay down in the finale against an “under-manned” Phillies team. Absolutely pathetic offense today.  Very disappointed right now. First series loss since the opening series @ NY.

Hopefully the thin Colorado air proves to be just what the doctor ordered. On a bright note, I’m thrilled that Randall Delgado threw 8 innings.  He didn’t deserve the loss.  We sttill have a score to settle with Philly. Had Roy Hallady not imploded Wednesday night, we’d have been swept. At least the Braves have a better record than them.

Atlanta, Delgado fall to Pirates 4-2 in frustrating loss

Atlanta starter Randall Delgado failed to go five innings and had trouble with his control again.  Oft – injured Pirates starter Eric Bedard had 9 k’s in 5 innings and the braves offense didn’t cash in on multiple scoring chances in the middle and late innings.

Looking forward to Tim Hudson’s season debut tommorrow. Six innings would be great.

Side notes: Brian McCann may be back in the lineup for Monday’s game. Great news.

Delgado has one tough inning in Braves’ 6-4 loss; 5 game win streak snapped

Randall Delgado was rolling merrily along until two outs in the third inning.  When Jason Kubel singled sharply up the middle it led to the floodgates being opened. When the damage was done, Gerrado Parra hit a back-breaking grandslam- a result that took place after the pitcher had walked.  The Braves got a few runs back, including a late  Juan Francisco HR, but were never able to gain control of the game.

Delgado needs to get over his 1 bad inning  problem.  He had the same issue in spring training.  Nevertheless, it’s always good to take 3 of 4 from Arizona in their park.  Let’s get the Dodgers next.  We are fortunate to miss Chad Billingsley and ace Clayton Kershaw.  Hope to solve Chris Capuano, a crafty LHP who has notoriously given atlanta fits in the past.
